Rajnath filed nomination, Congress or SP-BSP alliance yet to declare candidate

Lucknow Senior BJP leader and Home Minister Rajnath Singh filed his nomination from Lucknow parliamentary seat while Congress and SP-BSP-RLD alliance could not declare their candidates from here.

Rajnath Singh held a roadshow here in before filing his nomination papers. He started the roadshow form Bharatiya Janata Party headquarters, earlier he offered prayers at the Hanuman Setu Mandir.

Speaking at the BJP office, Singh said: “India is moving forward under the leadership of Prime Minister  Modi. He has done charismatic work. Whether it is Kerala or Karnataka, people from everywhere come to his public meetings.

“I don’t need to speak much here. People of Lucknow know me. I believe they will give me the opportunity to serve them again.”

BJP state President Mahendranath Pandey, party’s national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi, Minister Brajesh Pathak, MP Kalraj Mishra and JD-U General Secretary K.C. Tyagi were present at the roadshow.

Rajnath Singh won from Lucknow Parliamentary seat in 2014 with huge margin. This seat is considered as bastion on BJP as it has been held by Bhartiya Janta Party since 1991.

Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had been contesting from here since 1991 till 2004. In the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, BJP’s Lalji Tandon won the elections with 2,04,028 votes. In 2014 Rajnath Singh won the election by a resounding 5,61106 votes, defeating Rita Bahuguna Joshi by a margin of 2,72749 votes. Rita Joshi is now with BJP.
