Lucknow । Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati will not contest the Lok Sabha elections this year.
“Keeping in mind the current political situation, I have decided not to contest the Lok Sabha elections,” Mayawati told the media.
Mayawati had resigned from Rajya Sabha in 2017 eight months before completing her term in the house. She is currently the National president of Bahujan Samaj Party.
She has spent four separate terms as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. In 1995 she became Chief Minister for the first time.
Born in 1956, she has done BA, B Ed and LLB. She is Educated at Kalindi College, University of Delhi
Mayawati was a teacher before joining Politics and she got elected to Lok Sabha for the First time in 1989. She won three more election to Loksabha in 1998, 1999 and 2004. In 2004 she won loksabha elections but resigned soon after to join upper house.
She was first elected to Rajya Sabha in 1994. Again in 2004 and 2012 She has served her second and third term in Rajya Sabha.
BSP is fighting for political survival as party had drawn a blank in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
